Malta is a different journey in my life, it is one for educational purposes. I am a first timer to the island where Knights of Saint John’s were given territory by the King of Spain in the 16th C.E. The history of Malta is one that dates back to King Soloman from the Ottoman Empire, he felt threatened by the Knights and viewed them as threats which lead to the great war of 1565. Fast forward a few hundred years and the great Nation of Malta, located between Libya and Italy, is now a direct party in the refugee crisis of the 21st C.E, but one of which is able to integrate people.

As I go on this journey through the Mediterranean, I hope to experience my own time travel experience and see why so many in the region loved this area. With my husbands help (he is a living, breathing wiki page) I have found some items to try and places to go. Sadly the place worth visiting that I was most excited about collapsed last year, the azure window arch, yet it is still a beautiful sight to see! Some of the sights that I will attempt to see are Fort Saint Elmo, Downtown Valletta (where the knights of Saint John’s built their fortress), game of thrones filming sights, the Cathedral of Saint John, Manoel theater, and of course Valletta’s beautiful waterfront!
Since I love food, wine, and things… of course that list is longer of items to try. I truly believe if you sit down to a good meal or drink and talk with the locals about it that you will learn so much about the place that you are visiting. Some of the items that I will attempt to find and try are: FOOD – Widows soup (because cheeeeese), Kapunata, ftira (Malta style bread), pastizzi (breakfast for me), Aljotta, a few fish dishes and potentially snails. Sorry if you were hoping to hear about scallops or mussels, I’m allergic to them but can ask others about those delicious treats. DRINKS – Ċisk (popular local beer), Kinnie, and I hope local wine and other items.. I’m not sure if Ozzo is a local item here like elsewhere in the Mediterranean.
Heres hoping my updates and photos dont disappoint, I am 100% that after this trip you’ll want to come and see Malta for yourself. Afterall, everyone needs some island time.
